ABOUT US
The centre was started in the 1950s with a large wooden hut being transported from St Eval piece by piece and rebuilt by volunteers from St Austell to provide a theatre attached to Tregarden House.
The lack of any arts accommodation in the area meant that St Austell Arts Centre took on that role and still retains its unique position within the town as a venue for all.
The Centre’s mission is to enrich the lives of our community by providing opportunities and entertainment, at an affordable price, in the fields of drama, music, dance, comedy, film, pastimes, and crafts, together with the provision of space for groups and individuals to follow these pursuits.
We are the home to local amateur dramatics group The St Austell Players and host a number of regular community groups and classes including the U3A and St Austell Bridge Club.
GOVERNANCE
St Austell Arts Centre is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
The strategic direction and overall responsibility for the CIO is vested in a board of trustees.
Operational management of the Centre is delegated to the General Manager.
The charity produces an annual report and accounts as required by the Charity Commission.
